1-methylimidazole

Description

Description of 1-methylimidazole with associated disease summary

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)-based metabolomics has the ability to separate exhaled breath condensate (EBC) profiles of patients affected by pulmonary diseases from those of healthy subjects. In a study, 50 duplicated EBC samples from smokers (without COPD, with COPD, or with pulmonary Langerhans cell histiocytosis (PLCH)) were analyzed by means of NMR spectroscopy followed by principal component analysis (PCA) and projection to latent structures discriminant analysis (PLSDA). The result shows clusterization of EBC spectra was disease-specific; COPD and PLCH samples present a profile different from that of HS (smokes without COPD), showing 1-methylimidazole reduction. The concentration of 1-methylimidazole is drastically reduced in COPD and in PLCH. The ratio of 1-methylimidazole concentration in HS:COPD:PLCH is 1:0.05:0.28 respectively ( J Proteome Res. (2013) ). EBC-NMR investigation offers a powerful tool for assessing the evolution of airway diseases even in the presence of a strong common factor: smoking. ( J Proteome Res. (2013) ) Description of disease(s) related to 1-methylimidazole:
