4-Isopropenyltoluene

Description

Description of 4-Isopropenyltoluene with associated disease summary

Early diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) may be made possible by the exploration of novel quantifiable biomarkers. ( PLoS One. (2014) ) Similarly, certain individuals are susceptible to high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE); early diagnosis may be favorable as well, as the ability to identify individuals at risk of HAPE is currently very poor. ( J Breath Res. (2015) ) One study collected exhaled breath condensate (EBC) from 30-age-matched normal healthy individuals and 27 idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH; New York Heart Association functional class III/IV) patients. These EBC samples were analyzed using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-MS) followed by autoregression, and partial least squares regression (AR/PLSR) analysis, to discriminate between the IPAH and control groups. The result shows 1-methyl-4-(1-methylethenyl)-benzene is a common compound found in both IPAH samples and control samples. ( PLoS One. (2014) ) Another study examined the profile of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in EBC of healthy males with/without a history of HAPE. This study used auto-regression, partial least square regression of whole GC/MS data, and binary logistic regression (BLR) of individual GC peaks. This resulted in variable success. The peak identified as 1-methyl-4-(1-methylethenyl)-benzene was identified in both controls and PAH patients. In addition, other possible chemical structures of 1-methyl-4-(1-methylethenyl)-benzene were proposed. ( J Breath Res. (2015) ) Description of disease(s) related to Benzene, 1-methyl-4-(1-methylethenyl)-:
