DL-Tryptophan

Description

Description of DL-Tryptophan with associated disease summary

Levels of systemic tryptophan and kynurenine in serum have associations with the severity of asthma exacerbation induced by rhinovirus. Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) is an antiviral tryptophan-catabolizing enzyme. IDO has antiviral and immunosuppressive properties, so IDO and tryptophan play important roles in the allergic airway inflammation. Level of systemic tryptophan in serum of asthma individuals is higher than healthy individuals. But level of local tryptophan in EBC (Exhaled Breath Condensate) is not different between asthma group and healthy group. Measurement of systemic tryptophan and the downstream product could be seen as a prognostic factor of allergic asthma with rhinovirus infection. Tryptophan was measured by ultraperformance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) (Thorax (2013)). Description of disease(s) related to Tryptophan:
