2-Isopropyltoluene

Description

Description of 2-Isopropyltoluene with associated disease summary

Certain individuals are susceptible to high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE); the ability to identify individuals at risk of HAPE is currently very poor. Analysis of exhaled breath condensate (EBC) may present a favorable non-invasive method. A study examined the profile of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in EBC of healthy males with/without a history of HAPE. This study used auto-regression, partial least square regression of whole GC/MS data, and binary logistic regression (BLR) of individual GC peaks. This resulted in variable success. The peak for methyl (1-methylethyl) benzene was identified, but its significance or its role in HAPE is unclear. Further studies are needed to establish mechanistic details of formation and biological basis for the detected biomarker compounds. The results presented here, however, are consistent with possible alteration of oxidative chemistry in HAPE subjects during hypoxia events ( J Breath Res. (2015) ). Description of disease(s) related to Benzene, methyl (1-methylethyl):
