DL-Lysine

Description

Description of DL-Lysine with associated disease summary

N(epsilon)-carboxymethyllysine(CML), the metabolic product of lysine, is an important biomarker of advanced glycation end products (AGEs). The increased concentrations of CML have been found to associate with diabetes mellitus, Alzheimer's disease, atherosclerosis and liver cirrhosis. The authors have developed a new analytical method to achieve simultaneous quantification of lysine and CML for investigate the ratio of CML to lysine in EBC (Exhaled Breath Condensate) as a specific indicator of AGE formation. The authors analyzed the ratio of CML to the precursor lysine in the EBC samples of dialysis and health subjects. They found a trend of higher CML/lysine is associated with dialysis, though it did not reach the statistical significance (p = 0.094) (Anal Bioanal Chem. (2007)). Description of disease(s) related to Lysine:

Disease summary

Healthy controls

The amount of CML was higher (Anal Bioanal Chem. (2007)).

Diabetic nephropathy

The amount of CML is low, and the amount of lysine is high (Anal Bioanal Chem. (2007)).
