Lysophosphatidic acid

Description

Description of lysophosphatidic acid with associated disease summary

Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) is a biologically active lysophospholipid which is an essential to the development and progression of fibrosis. Several LPA species can be detected using LC-MS/MS method. The concentration of EBC Docosatetraenoyl (22:4) LPA is higher in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) subjects when compared to controls. More research is necessary to determine the significance of increase of 22:4 LPA in IPF EBC (BMC Pulm Med. (2014)). Description of disease(s) related to Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA):

Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis MeSH: Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis
A common interstitial lung disease of unknown etiology, usually occurring between 50-70 years of age. Clinically, it is characterized by an insidious onset of breathlessness with exertion and a nonproductive cough, leading to progressive DYSPNEA. Pathological features show scant interstitial inflammation, patchy collagen fibrosis, prominent fibroblast proliferation foci, and microscopic honeycomb change. Year introduced: 2009
