Neopterin

Description

Description of neopterin with associated disease summary

Neopterin is a marker of immune response and can be detected by enzyme immunoassay (EIA) method. In serum, it increased in viral infections patients. In urine, it is an indicator of sepsis severity. Study by Warwick G et al. shows that the sputum neopterin is increased in people with the symptoms of a viral infection. However, no significant difference in EBC neopterin between people with and without the viral infection (Respirology. (2013)). Description of disease(s) related to Neopterin:

Disease summary

Asthma

The sputum neopterin is increased in asthma patients with the symptoms of a viral infection. However, no significant difference in EBC neopterin between asthma patients with and without the viral infection (Respirology. (2013)).

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

The sputum neopterin is increased in COPD patients with the symptoms of a viral infection. However, no significant difference in EBC neopterin between COPD patients with and without the viral infection (Respirology. (2013)).
