14,15-LTD4

Description

Description of 14,15-LTD4 with associated disease summary

14,15-leukotriene D4 is renamed eoxin D4 recently. It resemble cysteinyl leukotrienes, but has different 3D structure. Eoxin D4 is involved in 15-lipoxygenase pathway with proinflammatory activities. EBC eoxin D4 level is reported to elevate significantly in children with asthma or bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR), compared to healthy children. Significant association between eoxin D4 value in EBC and asthma is demonstrated. EBC from children with asthma show significantly higher eoxin D4 level versus other chronic lung diseases (J Allergy Clin Immunol. (2011)). In study of adults, there is no difference in EBC levels between patients with asthma and healthy controls. However, eoxin D4 concentration in EBC in aspirin-induced asthma subjects is significantly higher than one in aspirin tolerance asthma subjects. Within patients with aspirin tolerance asthma, elevated level of EBC eoxin D4 is shown in females. No correlation of atopy status and eoxin D4 level is observed (J Allergy Clin Immunol. (2010)). Eoxin D4 in EBC is identified using HPLC-MS/MS in both studies. Description of disease(s) related to 14,15-leukotrienes D4:

Asthma

Higher concentrations of eoxin D4 in EBC are observed in children with asthma, but in adults, no difference of EBC D4 level is observed in asthma subjects.

Aspirin-induced asthma

EBC eoxin D4 values are significantly higher in aspirin-induced asthma subjects than ones in aspirin-tolerant subjects. Females with aspirin-induced asthma show elevated level of eoxin D4 in EBC.
