Description of 12-Hydroxyeicosapentaenoate with associated disease summary

12-hydroxyeicosapentaenoic acid (12-HEPE) is an eicosapentanoic acid (EPA) bioactive metabolite and pathway marker. It is one of specialized proresolving mediators (SPMs), which play a critical role in the active resolution of inflammation without immunosuppression. 12-HEPE values in EBC are shown to decrease in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) subjects compared to healthy controls. The concentration of EBC 12-HEPE is identified using lipid-mediator metabolipidomics by matching criteria and MS/MS spectra (Am J Physiol Lung Cell Mol Physiol. (2015)).
